As we pause before the arrival of summer and the prospects of holidays and a year that is almost half over, we note a number of changes taking place. Economic activity seems to be picking up and if new vehicles are any indication, there is a definite upgrading in the cars we now see on the streets of Tashkent. more

The calendar date, May 2007, is unrelentingly reminding us that the first decade of the 21 century very soon will be finished.  Therefore the first lessons of the economic development can be drawn. Countries around the world are continuing to shift from centrally-controlled economies to market-demand systems. This trend has brought to the forefront the need for the nations in transition to establish or modify basic commercial infrastructures. more

AmCham Events Monthly Meeting 12 March 2007

On March 12 AmCham in Uzbekistan hosted a panel discussion with the representatives of three International Finance Institutions working in Uzbekistan, namely the Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World bank.  Honorable speakers: Mr. Hong Wei, Country Director of ADB; Mr. Fernand Pillonel, the Head of EBRD office in Tashkent and Mr. Loup Brefort,  the Country Manager of the World Bank have shared with the AmCham community plans of the respective institutions with regards to their economic development projects and assistance to business development. more

Good Governance Seminar 27 February 2007

The market economy has become increasingly global. Leaders in business, government, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) now see global economic development as “the best way to increase prosperity within and among countries, and to create opportunities for millions of people, especially in the developing world, to secure a decent life for themselves and their children.” The challenge is to find the right balance between emerging global norms, values and standards and local cultures, business practices, and community needs. more

Nowadays reorganization of banks into Joint Stock Banks and organization of new banks in the form of Joint Stock companies increase the banks' power in the Equity Market and expand their operations with securities of Uzbekistan. I'm Abraham Smith.  I was born in the United States in the state of Oklahoma, and grew up in Arkansas.  I currently have a home in Washington DC with my wife and 3 year old daughter.  I was born in 1978.  I graduated in 2002 from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in the Undergraduate School of Business, where I majored in International Business, and minored in Russian Language.  From 1998 to 2000, I performed humanitarian work in Moscow Russia. more

On February 27 American Chamber of Commerce ion Uzbekistan enjoyed the hospitality and support of the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan while organizing the first ever International business Mixer. AmCham in Uzbekistan members were able to bring to this event their business partners and to socialize with the representatives of the economic missions of the majority of the Foreign embassies represented in Uzbekistan. more

AmCham Regional News

The Eurasia Business Platform (EBP) is allowing the American Chamber, Kyrgyz Republic to work more closely with our sister Chambers in Central Asia and the Caucasus. We gain from opening lines of communication and sharing with our neighbors in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as well. The initiative was originally launched as a way to develop future strategic policy recommendations to the US government to help the regions overall. more

Foreign investment into the economy of Uzbekistan
Last year the volume of foreign investment into the national economy increased by 20 percent.

According to the information from the Ministry of Economy, in the framework of Investment program there were 895.7 millions of US dollars of foreign investment attracted in 2006, which is 120 percent in comparison to figures of 2005. more

Who are the Members of AmCham?

Katering Ltd., an Uzbek version of English word catering, operates in Uzbekistan under CafeJUM brand name. The company is an exclusive distributor of automatic coffee machines produced by famous Italian manufacturer Saeco as well as coffee in beans roasted by Lucaffe, Gloria and CafePoli

CafeJUM project has been successfully launched in Uzbekistan jointly with “Jumanji” restaurant in 2006. The project plans to operate the network of coffee shops combined with sales of coffee machines, beans and accessories in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. It is an attempt to promote coffee culture in tea drinking country. The first coffee shop has been opened in October 2006 in Tashkent at Usman Nasir Street 34 and the second one on April 23rd 2007 at Chilanzar 16/11. more

AmCham Events Business Mixer 27 April 2007

On April 27 AmCham members and friends were invited to celebrate the opening of the second of a network of “Cafe Jum”s in Tashkent. The business concept of a new style coffee shop has already proven its success in the first “Cafe Jum” on Usman Nosir Street. Very nice combination of tasty and sophisticated beverages with stylish interior and friendly services made this AmCham event a very special one. more

What is New in the Legislation of Uzbekistan?

On 14 March 2007 the New Presidential Decree “On additional measures to stimulate modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of production” №УП-3860 was issued with the aim to stimulate continuous re-equipment in order to increase production of high-quality, competitive and export oriented output. more
